We consume a lot of content in watching and reading. It doesn't expand our consciousness; it shrinks our consciousness. You are what you watch, you are what you hear. We once upon a time used to say, "You are what you eat," but eating is not just about food. No, eating is through your eyes, through your ears; every sensory input you're giving is eating. It is called ahar. Ahar is not just for food; ahar is for every sense. Therefore, in the Ashtanga Yoga system, the fifth step is called prati ahar, prahar, where you stop the ahar to all your senses.
Now, you can't do ashtanga yoga to stop prahar and shut off from the world out there. So, what do you do? That prahar, for you, means consume the right kind of content that blossoms your consciousness. You know when you hear something how you feel uplifted, you know when you watch someone or hear someone, read someone, how you feel uplifted. Nobody can tell you what you will feel better by than you yourself, who is the judge of your consciousness. You should tell you what you should watch and what you should read because you know who makes me feel good, what makes me feel good, what makes me feel peaceful when I go through a stressful day, what makes me feel that I can fight it. Watch the content you read and what. That's the first way to expand your consciousness, right?
